Meng Endorses Comrie for State Senate

Aiming to sustain momentum for his state Senate campaign, former city councilman Leroy Comrie picked up an important endorsement from an elected official right in his backyard, Rep. Grace Meng

The addition of Meng, who represents many of the northern neighborhoods in the 14th Senate district where Comrie is challenging incumbent state Sen. Malcolm Smith, extends Comrie’s lengthy list of support from Queens elected officials, including Rep. Greg Meeks, state Sen. James Sanders, and Council members Rory LancmanDaneek Miller and Donovan Richards. Smith is under indictment for allegedly attempting to bribe his way into the Republican primary election for mayor last year.

"Leroy Comrie offers a distinguished record of achievement and integrity, and has worked tirelessly as a public official who cares deeply about the needs of his constituents," Meng said in a statement. "The residents of Senate District 14 can trust Leroy Comrie to deliver on what matters. Leroy demonstrates an ability to work in common cause with people of diverse backgrounds to make a difference."

Bernadette Semple, a former Navy commander, is also challenging Smith in the primary.
