Good Shepherd Services' Mentored Internship Program, a supportive employment experience for youth with a history of foster care, recently held their graduation ceremony and received a surprise visit by actor, comedian and rapper Donald Glover.

During the graduation ceremony held last week, it was discovered that Glover was filming a movie in the same building. A Good Shepherd Services staff member was the first to run into the celebrity, recalled Gabby Kasper, program coordinator for the organization’s Pinkerton Mentored Internship Program.

“Kiani Oro met actor and comedian Donald Glover in the building lobby,” Kasper wrote in a brief statement emailed to New York Nonprofit Media. “Kiani gave him a flier advertising the graduation and invited him to join the celebration of the graduates’ accomplishment.”

Glover then made a surprise visit and delivered remarks to the interns.

“We thank Donald Glover for taking time out of this day to visit with us, for sharing a few words of inspiration with the graduates and for taking a photo with all of us," Kasper said.

Good Shepherd Services, a nonprofit organization that provides programming for children, youth and families across New York City, offers the internship program to allow young people to explore a career in public service or the nonprofit sector.

For 12 weeks, interns receive valuable professional development and are matched with a mentor. A graduation ceremony at the end caps off their work and acknowledges their accomplishments.
