Podcast: Prepping for the primary with Errol Louis

New Yorkers have self-importance ingrained in our DNA, but when it comes to presidential primary season, the state has long been considered an afterthought – with the late-season election often viewed as nothing more than an affirmation of the frontrunner for both parties, rather than a significant bellwether state.

But with the Republican and Democratic field (field of one, for the latter) refusing to bow out quietly in 2016, New York has been thrust in an unlikely position as a determinative state primary. And with that prestige comes the perk of hosting what could be the most-watched debate of the campaign between Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Thursday night.

NY1 anchor Errol Louis, one of the panelists hosting Thursday’s debate, joined Gerson Borrero and me on this week’s Slant Podcast to pull back the curtain on the preparation that goes into vetting Clinton and Sanders for the state’s electorate. We pick Errol’s brain on what types of questions he might be asking the candidates, and he provides his always-astute commentary on how the primary season has unfolded thus far.
